How many followers on LinkedIn is good, and how many do you need?
LinkedIn sets no number for a good following. What a post reaches at each size, the 150 that opens a newsletter, and how few followers bring clients.

How many followers on LinkedIn is good?
There is no official mark, and LinkedIn publishes no average. A fair test is what your posts reach. In The Shield Index's count of 50,000 posts from March 2026, a typical post from an account under 500 followers was seen 102 times. One from an account with 5,000 to 10,000 followers was seen 757 times.

So more followers do bring more views, and fewer than you would hope. At least ten times the followers brought about seven times the views. A typical post reached 45 percent of the follower count for accounts under 500, and 11 percent at 5,000 to 10,000.
The second finding is the useful one. A strong post from a small account, one in its top 10 percent, was seen 714 times. That is level with a normal post from an account more than ten times its size. A better post can do the work of ten times the followers. The full table by size is in what is a good number of impressions on LinkedIn.
How many followers is a lot on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn draws only a few lines itself. Past 500 connections a profile shows 500+ and stops counting in public, while followers are always shown as a number. Its guide for creators asks for more than 150 followers and connections before you can start a newsletter or be considered for LinkedIn Live.

The upper line is 30,000 connections, the most one member can have. Followers have no limit. No number makes you an influencer either. LinkedIn's blue Top Voice badge is given by invitation, and its one programme that pays creators is invitation only. What that leaves is in how you make money on LinkedIn.
How many LinkedIn followers do you need to get clients?
Fewer than you think, because you need few clients. A coach or a consultant who takes on a dozen clients a year needs a few hundred of the right readers. Who follows you matters more than how many. Two hundred heads of finance are worth more to a finance consultant than twenty thousand strangers.
Buyers read before they call. In research by Edelman and LinkedIn, 75 percent of decision makers said a piece of writing led them to look into an offering they had not been considering. A post can reach a buyer who does not follow you, through a comment, a repost or a search.
Here is the sum for a small account, and it is ours. At 1,000 to 2,500 followers a typical post was seen 374 times. Two posts a week is about a hundred posts a year, read by much the same few hundred people. A buyer who has read you thirty times knows what you do.
How do you get the right followers on LinkedIn?
Write about one subject, for one kind of buyer, two or three times a week, and make Follow the main button on your profile. People follow after they read something useful, so followers come after reach. LinkedIn's guide for creators suggests two to five posts a week.
