Can you cross post from Instagram to LinkedIn?

Only as a link. Paste the reel's link into a LinkedIn post and readers tap through to Instagram to watch it. Instagram's own cross posting covers Facebook and Threads. To post a reel as a video, or a carousel as slides, you upload the file to LinkedIn yourself, or use a scheduler that posts to both.

From Instagram to LinkedIn

What each format becomes

  • A reel

A native video post. LinkedIn takes MP4 and MOV, tall video included.

  • A carousel

Up to 20 images in one post, or a PDF that people swipe through.

  • A caption

A full written post. On LinkedIn the words carry it.

  • A hashtag block

Leave it out. LinkedIn removed hashtag following in late 2024.

A scheduler that posts to both saves you the upload. The caption is the part to watch. It was written for people scrolling past pictures, and on LinkedIn the post sits above the video, so it is read first. If your scheduler lets you write a different caption for each network, use it.

How do you post an Instagram reel on LinkedIn?

Upload the original video file, the one you edited, as a LinkedIn video post. LinkedIn takes MP4 and MOV files of up to 15 minutes, in shapes from tall to wide, so a reel fits as it is. Add captions, because LinkedIn says 85 percent of its videos are watched on mute, and write a post above it.

Use the file from your phone or your editing app, at full quality. If the reel leans on a trending song, think about a version with your voice alone. On LinkedIn most people watch with the sound off, so the captions and the post do the talking.

LinkedIn's own advice for video is short: aim for 60 to 90 seconds, make the first three seconds count, and keep text away from the edges so the app's buttons do not cover it. Its automatic captions work in 10 languages. The full specs are in LinkedIn video in 2026.

What should the caption say on LinkedIn?

Everything the reel says, in words. On LinkedIn the post above the video carries the idea. The Shield Index counted 167,940 LinkedIn posts and found that posts under 25 words reached 7.6 percent of followers, against 15.4 percent at 150 to 175 words. A one line Instagram caption is the short kind.

Write the caption as a post. Open with the point of the reel in two short lines, since a phone shows about 140 characters before see more. Give the one example the video shows. End with what you think. Then drop the hashtag block: LinkedIn removed hashtag following in late 2024, so a tag no longer puts a post in front of people who follow it. More in do LinkedIn hashtags still work.

A carousel can come over as up to 20 images in one post, or as a PDF that people swipe through like slides. The PDF can run to 300 pages and 100 MB. Both need the same rewrite: the post above them says what the slides prove. How to build the PDF version is in how to make a LinkedIn carousel post.
